Teachers Guidelines

  1. Teachers may be called upon to help in emergency situations where eject is required.

  2. Teachers are not 24/7 on duty and cannot be expected to answer calls for lessons from other Teachers or Teachers Aides looking for a building lesson for surplus students. If you are in trouble with your lesson..... or need an eject, feel free to call any teacher, but it is not fair to interrupt an off duty teacher when they are not on call so that they feel they MUST give a lesson, unless you know they are free and willing to help.

  3. So please, if you are over run with students, recommend they review the list of teachers on the north wall or on the Teacher List web page to email for a scheduled lesson....or give them the coords or url for the self help tutorials.

  4. Senior Teachers have ED (eminent domain) and can assist with deletions.

  5. Duty Times for the citizen extension programme are to be filled out using this form.

  6. A reminder: only two hours (not less)  a week are counted towards the cit'ship extensions.

    IE:
    1/2 an hour one week = 0,
    3 hours the second week = 2,
    6 hours the third week = 2,
    1 hour the fourth week= 0.
total   4 hours for the month

  7. All Teachers and Teachers Aides are to log duty times (regardless of citizenship extensions or not) at least once monthly so we know that you are still active or you will need to be classified as AWOL and removed from the boards. You will also need to notify us of any change of name, e-mail or status. Those signs are not much good to students if the person on the sign doesn't officially exist. Please let us know of any changes. Let us know also of any one who wants to drop out. And Please let us know of any temporary absences (Leave).

  8. Eject texts are to be sent directly to the dreamer2 and are to contain the actual LOG of the eject and not just a cursory report, " I ejected so and so on Monday last week because I didn't like his avatar"
And this means ALL ejects, by ALL Teachers.

  9. Once again I would like to remind all teachers with eject that we do not eject from a moral standpoint, either on our own behalf or any one else's, but to protect the learning environment of AWSchool and its visitors.
In a world wide situation such as Activeworlds it is just too difficult to pass moral judgement on ppl from such diverse backgrounds. Swearing and immoral behaviour is not in itself room for ejection... rather a reminder (not a warning, as we are hosts, NOT morality judges) that we don't need to hear it and neither do the other ppl that come to AWSchool to learn. Please read the eject guidelines if you haven't recently.

What is room for ejection , even without a warning, is the hindrance of that learning process, either by physical means ( deleting a students property) or deliberate maliciousness such as spamming swear words at Ground Zero or abusing ppl and disrupting the chat with vicious text.

  10. In most cases where eject is possibly an issue, for minor offences it is best to give the benefit of the doubt with a warning or three.

It is clear intent to do harm to the learning environment of AWSchool that is the reason for an eject.

  11. Senior Teachers are to be responsible for the clean up of the teaching and practice yards.

  12. Refrain from any behaviour not accepted from visitors- bigoted behaviour will get you booted as well. Remember that while a teacher in AWSchool you are accepting the responsibility of AWSchool's good name.

  13. If you find vandalism of a particularly nasty kind in AWSchool, please notify me (dreamer2) of the name and number of the citizen before its deletion, so I can add the name to the list of troublemakers I keep. Remember, PK's have no jurisdiction in AWSchool and cannot act in an official capacity, except on matters that affect the whole of AW.

  14. When joining students in other worlds remember that not everyone will give you a nice cushy place to land......some teachers have reported landing on spinning warps and on bump URLs to porn sites. Get the co-ords from the student and teleport to an area a little distance away.

  15. In the North there are plots for everybody, Teachers and Aides, it can be done in your own names and with teleports to your sites, worlds and websites and anything else you would like to share. 'Gram Ryan or me (dreamer2) when you are ready to begin building and get us to uncover your land for you and put your teleport at the directory :o)

  16. When in bolds we can see the names of other teachers and students before they speak... consider before you yell out their names in open chat that they may not wish to be announced and DON'T! Everyone has the right to announce themselves when and if they choose :o)

  17. If a password is changed for any reason you will be notified of the new password, on request, via email. if you have simply forgotten the password, again, please send an email to Ryan or myself (dreamer2) and do not ask a fellow teacher. There is a large percentage of password thefts and precautions are necessary.

  18. We have a featured Build of the Week, let a Senior Teacher know of any sites you think are topnotch so we can put them up at AWS GZ.

  19. Always be polite! Be helpful at AWS GZ. Meet the other teachers and staff. Walk around the school, know where things are and where to send people for help. Be prepared to tell people who you are and if you are unsure if another person is a teacher or not, ask them. Many people like to just help out, that is to be praised. Be nice, tell them that we appreciate that they are helping, also tell them it is ok as long as they do not claim to be a teacher. I think the practise yard is a perfect place for people wanting to help friends to learn. Feel free to tell them about our teaching program. You never know who will make the next great Teacher.

  20. If things go bad and they want a word fight or flame war, Back out! Never get sucked into loosing your cool. Log all chat while you are teaching or at the school. Chat logs will also help you improve your teaching, read back over them before you delete them. Look for missed questions, areas you can fine tune. Areas where the student had problems learning. Was it the way you said it? Always think of ways to improve. If you have had a bad day in the Real World, be careful about coming to the school. Telegram another teacher, talk it out. Just try not to bring bad moods to the school.

  21. Keep your contact list up to date. Know who works at the school. If you know people who are good in different areas of building, ask them if you can call on them for answers to questions. eg: world owners, people who can translate different languages is always a plus!! If you know a Peace Keeper (PK) that also comes in handy. Students come to the school for all kinds of help.

  22. Keep a list of locations to Objects Yards, Texture Yards, and Demo areas. Have URL's handy for things like colours, bots, AW Support, music and good jpg sites.

  23. Being a good teacher is not always knowing all the answers but knowing where to find them :-)

  24. Teachers Aides should use the standard AWS Lesson Plan, but don't forget to work on one of your own as you practice your teaching. Go someplace alone and actually type it out so you can see what it looks like. Lesson plans will change as you teach and learn more. Always feel free to send a Senior Teacher a copy of your plan as they are there to help you teach better and always willing to give suggestions. Once your Lesson Plan is flawless you will be promoted to Teacher.

  25. Read the school web page regularly and keep up to date.

  26. If you are at gz with bolds on, you are on duty, and someone comes to gz and wants help, you should immediately and politely respond. Understand that everyone is welcome at gz at anytime, but if you are there to chat, leave your bolds off:o)) Also, at no time should there be more than two Aides using bolds at one time.

  27. Don't forget the Teacher of the Month......Have you noticed a teacher doing an outstanding job? let us know! we want to publicly thank any one who makes an effort :o)
