After a proposal was presented to Circle
of Fire Inc. by the Co-Founder of the Gatekeeper program, Moria, the
Activeworlds Gatekeeper Organization became an identity.
With the introduction of AWGate as the entry world on December 21
1997, 32 citizens volunteered to become Gatekeepers.
Before the introduction of the world AWGate, and the Gatekeepers,
people were left to 'fend for themselves' as they entered the ActiveWorlds universe.
Coming into Active Worlds for the first time, was at times,
difficult, as you needed to know another person and had to learn how
to use the program yourself.
Often people walked around aimlessly, not too sure of what to do,
where to go or how to use the program.
With the introduction of AWGate and the Gatekeepers, people had a
welcoming environment where they could learn the basics of the
program.
This still holds true today. With all the new changes and
innovations made over the years, the Gatekeepers remain one of the
constants.
The Gatekeepers, at one time, added Juno Dome to their list of
"Welcome Worlds" and they maintained a pleasant and welcoming
environment to all newcomers. Offering assistance and instruction on
the Activeworlds program, teaching the newcomer how to take their
first steps into a remarkable and awesome 3D environment.
How many of us have said, "I received a warm welcome when I first
used AW, from a Gatekeeper."
In September, 2000 the Gatekeepers Organization was awarded the
Spirit of CY Volunteer Award. |

Gatekeeper Service Awards
In September of 2000 the
Gatekeeper organization was
presented with a prestigious award
recognizing all of the people who
commit there own time and resources
as volunteers to the Gatekeeper
organization.
The Spirit of CY Volunteer Award is
something that each and every member
of the Gatekeepers organization can
be proud of.
Without our volunteer's tireless
dedication, this award could not be
displayed on our mantelpiece.
Thank you, each and every one of
you!
We like to reward
great work and commitment to the
Gatekeeper organization by
announcing a Gatekeeper of the
Month.
In addition to this we also reward
commitment to the Gatekeeper program
by honoring our members who have
been a part of the organization for
three or more years.
Of course no organization would be
complete without its other members
who work tirelessly to provide a
wonderful experience for new and old
users alike.
We would like to thank you all for
your wonderful efforts and hope to
see your names added to this ever
expanding list!
So
without further ado, roll out the
red carpet!
Some Classic Quotes
Volunteering as a
Gatekeeper can often put the
Gatekeeper in the frontline of many
a humorous situation. The following
Classical Quotes come from all kinds
of people, Gatekeepers, Citizens,
Gate Regulars and Tourists alike.
[Customs Aide]: I just ejected ****
for unacceptable language <---- a
Classic Quote by Miss C.A.
How many of us have said, "Have a
great shift!" only to miss one
letter due to a typo and have
consequently been shown to the 'Blue
Room' by our treasured bot, Miss
C.A.
Speaking of Miss C.A., who experienced the dialogue from Mr I. O.
(Immigration Officer) regarding Miss
C.A. in November 2001?

to view the chat log.
Many of us have witnessed the
tiresome effort of some visitors to
the Gate chatting up Miss C.A. When
this happens, Miss C.A. always
remains cool and collected, not
responding to the many pick-up lines
thrown her way.
There is the classic tale of finding the virtual toilets in AWGate,
here is one explanation of how to
find them:
"Take a left at the end of the north
bridge, turn right after the big
green tree, hang a right by the
babbling brook, walk over the
stepping stones, take another right
turn, keep walking straight ahead
until you cannot see the Rubik's
cube anymore then turn to the East,
find the large rock that looks like
ENZO and when you get to the rock
duck behind the evergreen patch by
the big oak tree.......if all else
fails just jump into the windmill."
Following on from the Classic
Seagull Squadron and with the
introduction of the new Gate, there
has been the formation of the Puppy
Platoon.
With the introduction of the new gate, we have seen many new
structures, some that can cause a
certain amount of grief. Even the
tranquility of the Gate can be
broken when one turns on their
sounds. ". . . tonight I just
happened to have my headset on and
sound effects on.. nice calm
birdie/nature sounds.. which I
didn't even notice.. then.. while I
was talking a drink of water.. BONG!
The clock! Well that surprised me..
I choked, and bit my tongue... so
much for nerves of steel.... :o) . .
."
The dreaded whisper box: several
classic quotes can be found under
this heading, but the best must be
when someone received a miswhiper
and their reply was: ". . .sounds
interesting but don't do you think
we should be introduced first? . .
."
To Juno Dome and the "Juno Tractor Beam" so named with affection by a
particular Gatekeeper who found out
that you don't need a chain.rwx to
be stuck in it. The idea is to ". .
. hold the "up" arrow key for a few
seconds . . ."

"Pink is for Girls, Yellow is for Boys" <----a favorite Bunny
expression.
" "SKapper": hey there,
Gatekeeper, who's the bloke here
with the female avatar wedged in his
but crack? And where do you sign up
for that?"
Where am I?
From Juno: "...We are going to have
a hamster line dance and it is all
going to end with a big SQUISH. . ."
It is never a wise idea to give a 'flooding demonstration' even the
Gatekeepers are not exempt when Miss
C.A. sets her mind to flooders.
Way back when the world was young
and the Gatekeepers first started, a
particular Gatekeeper welcomed two
new Tourists by the name of "Jack"
and "get lost" Now Jack didn't know
about the Tourist 'get lost' and
imagine his surprise when the
Gatekeeper's greeting was: 'Hi Jack
and get lost' |
