Quikword Information for Windows Vista Users

Some people are having problems with Quikword after either upgrading or on new Vista machines.
Below are two files you may need.

Quikword.ini
http://host.activeworlds.com/awhelp/quikword/quikword_ini.zip

The Quikword.ini file goes in your Quikword Folder.

Msvbvm50.dll
http://host.activeworlds.com/awhelp/quikword/Msvbvm50.dll

The Msvbvm50.dll file goes into Windows/System32 folder or if you are running 64bit it is placed into the /syswow64 folder.

There are also steps here that you can take to tweak the program more.

In Windows Vista you will need to turn OFF the UAC (User Account Control)

You do this by going to Control Panel...User Accounts... and the bottom option to turn it off. Then reboot the computer.

Firewall Settings

One user still could not get Quikword to work and was able to by setting Quikword as an exception under the firewall settings.

To do this go to. Start. Control Panel.

Find the Windows Firewall icon and click it.

In the Windows Firewall Box that comes up, Click on the " Change Settings " link.

In the Windows Firewall Settings Box that comes up  click on the " Exceptions " Tab.

You should see a list of programs that are allowed through the Firewall. We want to add Quikword to this list if it is not already there and checked.

To do this click the Add Program button and navigate to your Quikword.exe file. Use the Browse button if it is not in the list.

Click add .. Apply .. then OK and exit out.

This from the maker of Quikword

Have you tried running it with administrator rights by right clicking
on the .exe/shortcut and starting it that way?

Also in Vista I'm told there is an option to tell Vista not to notify
you anymore and that you trust the program or something like that, that
option may be in the right click menu for the exe/shortcut as well. (?)

Another thing you might want to try is to change the compatibility
option for the program to WinXP or earlier, I believe this is also an
option when you right click on the exe or shortcut.

Good Luck,
Ed Wilk
